Site Reversion, Missing Posts & Calendar, Mistakes, & Technical Debt

WordPress had cropped up with “An error has occurred establishing a connection to the database,” again and I ended up reverting the site to an august version so the site will be missing some content and the calendar is out of date for a bit. I’m re-posting some of it over time.

Thinking about it afterwards, I destructively failed to pay a few cents for a droplet snapshot if I wanted to try replacing the somehow completely missing wp-config.php file with an old copy, probably would have worked. The long delay of the file system unification continues to cause problems keeping backups and notes organized. I’m still learning to do WordPress installs from scratch on a nuke and pave droplet instance, WordPress haven’t updated their 1-click droplet on Digital Ocean for too long in favor of doing the more expensive Cloudways managed instances. The export ecosystem is a bit clunky. I do wonder whether the paid official WordPress tools are any more elegant than the Updraft Plus freebies. Sigh.
